Worship is the highest calling
and what we were created for.
“I will give them one heart and one purpose: to worship Me forever.”
– Jeremiah 32:39 NLT
The greatest thing we could ever do is love Jesus. If we do this well, we have succeeded; for He is the greatest treasure we could ever find. We do not learn the piano to become skilled and well known; we learn the piano to find yet another way to pour our love on Jesus.
Our worship can become a resting place for the Lord, for Scripture says that He lives in our praise (Psalm 22:3). Through worship, we can host His presence and create a space where He comes to abide, where He is loved, and where He finds true friendship.
Come join us. Join a group of people with eyes only for Him, with hearts to love Him, and with one dream – His presence. What Students Say
“Makayla is a wonderful teacher! She really went all out to understand me and help me learn piano basics! She’s a wonderful pianist and excellent teacher!”
— Patience
“I love taking private lessons with Makayla. Her love for Jesus, and the reverence and beauty in worship for Him shines forth in her lessons and video courses. I purchased both the Beginning and Intermediate worship piano courses to reinforce what she has taught me in our lessons. They have been so helpful. I recommend watching the lesson, taking notes, and then sitting at the piano doing what she is teaching. The lessons are very thorough. The most important thing I've learned is to make this all about Jesus, and where my heart should be for Him. Thank you, Makayla!”
— Kimberly
“I am an older student and wanted to learn worship songs. Makayla is truly the best teacher for this. She is patient and explains the concepts well. I have learned so much from her.”
— Beverly
“I was always frustrated when I tried to learn piano by myself because I'm not very motivated on my own, and the books I used tended not to teach piano in a way that kept me interested. With Makayla, however, lessons are enjoyable, engaging, and extremely helpful. I have made significant progress and now enjoy playing a wide selection of worship songs. She adapts the lessons to whatever pace I can handle and is understanding when I encounter difficulties with playing. I highly recommend her as a teacher!”
— Miranda
“Without a doubt, Makayla created a comfortable environment for the children to learn and grow musically. They never complained about lessons or practicing and enjoyed learning all that she asked of them. She genuinely cared about our children, both musically and in their personal lives.”
— Penni
“It took me a while to find the worship teacher I was looking for . . . and then Makayla came my way. In half a year, she made my dream happen. It's a joy to learn chord playing, accompaniment patterns, and fills while singing for the Lord, our Creator. I also feel confident now to play hymns in a more reflective style at my church. Makayla is amazing and makes learning so easy and fun. What a blessing she is.”

A scale in music includes all of the notes in a key. For example, in the key of C major, which has no sharps or flats, the scale is C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C. Learning all of the major scales on the piano will allow you to play fluently in any key.
What happens when we worship? Are we simply singing songs in our living room, or is our personal worship a part of something far bigger, far more eternal? Throughout history, the Scriptures and the church have always seen worship as the coming together of heaven and earth.
Welcome to the piano! As you begin to learn the basics of the keyboard, you will first want to memorize the name of each key. You will notice that the piano keyboard has black and white keys, and the black keys appear in groups of 2 and 3.
In this life, there will be times when we go through hardship and pain. We pray for healing but our loved one dies. We are in pain and the doctors cannot figure out why. We deal with trauma and loss, face financial difficulties, or simply have too much to do in a day. When we face these hard times, we naturally want answers – we want to know why this is happening to us.

One of the beautiful results of worship is that it creates a habitation – a dwelling place, or a resting place – both for the Lord and for us. In the New Testament, we find that Jesus often traveled to Bethany to stay at the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. Why? He was loved there. They worshipped Him, and He made their home His habitation.

We were created for one purpose – to worship, to behold Jesus, to love Him. That is the only thing that will ever satisfy us. No pleasure on earth, no promotion, no bonus, no person will ever satisfy us – only Jesus will. We were born to worship. Worship is the highest calling. That doesn’t mean that everyone has to sit in a prayer room and sing all day, but everyone is called to this heart of worship.
As worship musicians who read from chord charts, we often want to know what chords we will be using in a particular key. It might surprise you to learn that there are only 6 main chords in each key - 3 major chords, and 3 minor chords.
As worship musicians, we use the word worship a lot. But what exactly is worship? The Bible tells us that worship is a condition of the heart.

"Here I Am to Worship” is a modern-day worship song that speaks of the beauty and majesty of Jesus, captivating the heart with the beauty of His face.
We need all three realms of prayer – verbal prayer, meditative prayer, and contemplative prayer. But it is in contemplative prayer that we are truly changed – because the realm of contemplative prayer isn’t a place we enter and then leave. It’s a place where our hearts can abide even when our bodies and minds are doing something else.
"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost but now am found - was blind but now I see." This hymn has been a classic for hundreds of years, speaking of the joy and assurance of knowing Jesus.

“Be still and know that I am God.” Go be alone with Jesus, and simply sit still. You will never find Him in the busyness of life until you have first found Him in the stillness, in the quiet places. Elijah did not find Him in the wind or the fire but in the still, small voice. You will never find Him in the doing until you have first found Him in the being.
Most of classical music wasn’t written for worship, and a large part of it wasn’t even written by Christians. So as worship musicians, is it okay to play Beethoven… or Tchaikovsky… or the Beatles… or Happy Birthday? Where is the line, where does the sacred meet the secular, and where does the secular become sacred because the light of Jesus has shone upon it, casting out all darkness?
How important is the presence of the Lord in worship? How do we know when He is in the room? And how do we as worship leaders and musicians follow the voice of the Holy Spirit when He comes to dwell among us?

When the wise men brought their gifts to Jesus, they gave us a clear pattern for how Jesus desires to be worshipped. In addition, the very gifts they brought spoke of Jesus as the Son of God, the One worthy of our worship, and the suffering Savior. How beautiful He is!
